Item Internal Controls and Organisational Performance of United Nations Organisation Stabilisation Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Entebbe Base(Uganda Management Institute, 2016-01) KATUSHABE, Patience; Kiwanuka, Michael(Supervisor); Kagambirwe, Gerald Karyeija(Supervisor)This study sought to establish the relationship between internal controls and organisational performance of United Nations Organisation Stabilisation Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo - Entebbe Base. The objectives of the study were to investigate the relationship between control environment, monitoring and control activities with organisational performance of United Nations Organisation Stabilisation Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The study adopted a case study design to collect date from a sample of 165 using a questionnaire survey, interview and documentary review. Quantitative data was analysed using descriptive statistics, correlation and regression analysis. Qualitative data was analysed by thematic analysis. The study found out that there was a significant positive relationship between control environment, monitoring and control activities with organisational performance. It was thus concluded that control environment, monitoring and control activities with organisational performance. Therefore, it was recommended that public organisations, NGOs/ private organisations and government agencies should establish a control environment, monitoring system and control activities that enhance organisational performance.Item Psycho-Social Factors Affecting Student Drop out in Kasenyi Secondary School, Mubende(Uganda Management Institute, 2015-01) NALUBEGA, Diana Bukenya; Kiwanuka, Michael(Supervisor); Kyohairwe, Stella(Supervisor)The study investigated the relationship between psycho social factors and students’ dropout in Kasenyi Secondary School in Mubende district, Uganda. Specifically the study investigated the relationship between counseling and guidance, teacher-student academic relationship and co curricular activities and students’ dropout in Kasenyi secondary school. The study used a cross sectional descriptive study design that collected data from a sample of 50 respondents using questionnaire, interview guide and focus group discussion guide. Data was analyzed using the qualitative and quantitative methods. In the quantitative data analysis, data collected was coded first to enable the researcher group respondents into the limited number of classes in order to ease analysis and later data was tabulated and treated for further analysis by use of tables which were done by Computer Statistical Package for Social scientists. For qualitative data analysis content analysis was used to test the authority of the information given by respondents and this was by use of questionnaires. The results showed a positive significant relationship of: counseling, teacher-student academic relationship and co-curricular activities visa-vi students’ dropout. The study concluded that counseling and guidance, teacher student academic relationship and co curricular activities strongly influence student dropout, the study recommended under counseling and guidance that schools should have more than one counselor to handle large numbers of students, for teacher-student academic relationship: regular quizzes should be put in place to allow students ask for questions and provided with answers. In addition for co curricular activities; Ministry of Education and Sports should facilitate and reward sports for the best participant, schools should provide appropriate medical treatment in case of injury, and games and sports should be timetabled.Item Public Procurement Management and Effective Service Delivery in Government Agencies in Uganda: A case Study of Kampala Capital City Authority(Uganda Management Institute, 2015-01) KASANGAKI, Racheal; Barifaijo, Maria (Supervisor); Kiwanuka, Michael(Supervisor)This study investigated the relationship between procurement management and service delivery in government agencies in Uganda with particular focus on Kampala Capital city Authority. Specifically the study reviewed how Procurement planning, controls and monitoring are related to service delivery in Kampala City Council Authority. The study adopted a case study research design that adopted both qualitative and quantitative aspects. Empirical data was collected from 91 respondents using questionnaire, interview guide and documentary review checklist. The qualitative data was analyzed using both thematic and content analysis and quantitative data analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The key findings of the study indicated that the two of the procurement management attributes that is; procurement planning and procurement control are significantly related to service delivery in Kampala Capital city Authority, however, the study found no significant relationship between procurement monitoring and service delivery in Kampala City Council Authority. The study recommended that the existing procurement planning processes be revised and strengthened to further improve service delivery in Kampala City Council Authority; the controls be thoroughly reviewed and adherence enforced; while monitoring be carried out regularly and by independent personnel. Further research was recommended to cover other procurement management attributes and a wider population of in Uganda.
