Abstract
The study explored the factors affecting solid waste management in Kagadi Town Council,
Kibaale District. The objectives of the study were to find out the effect of rapid population growth,
Funding and community participation on solid waste management. Participants of the study were
drawn from Kagadi Town Council. Data on three independent variables of rapid population growth, Funding and community participation and the dependent variable (Solid waste
management) were collected from 100 participants whose response rate was 100%. Data was
collected through the use of a structured questionnaire, interviews, and documentary analysis. The
study established that solid waste management in Kagadi Town Council, Kibaale district is an
issue that requires urgent attention and that solid waste management; is affected by rapid
population growth, Funding and community participation. The study recommends; Kagadi Town
Council to formulate by laws for proper management of solid waste. The central government and
Kagadi Town Council should increase funding for solid waste management activities and Kagadi
town council should embark on community mobilization and sensitization to create awareness for
effective solid waste management.
It is suggested that further research should be carried out on the challenges of solid waste
management in another local government for comparison purposes. This may trigger policy
formulation across the boarder.
