Abstract
This study examined the relationship between organisational support and employee commitment amongst teaching staff of St. Simon Peter’s Vocational Training Centre Specific objectives were; (i)To establish the relationship between promotional chances and employee commitment at St. Simon Peter’s Vocational Training Centre, (ii)To examine the relationship between position autonomy and employee commitment at St. Simon Peter’s Vocational Training Centre and (iii) To investigate the relationship between task autonomy and employee commitment at St. Simon Peter’s Vocational Training Centre. A correlational research design was used with quantitative and qualitative data collection techniques. Data was collected from a sample of 50 employees and 2 key informants using the questionnaire and interview-guide respectively. Data analysis was by use of the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) and thematic content analysis for quantitative and qualitative data respectively. Pearson Correlation results showed that there was a statistical significant relationship between promotional chances and employee commitment [r = 0.644, p, value 0.001<0.05], position autonomy and employee commitment [r = 0.774, p-value 0.008<0.05] and task autonomy and employee commitment [r = 0.494, p-value 0.006<0.05]. Regression results showed that promotion chances and employee commitment at St. Simon Peter’s Vocational Training Centre had a positive effect [Beta = 0.917, p-value 0.002<0.05], position autonomy and employee commitment [Beta = 0.700, p-value 0.009<0.05] and task autonomy [Beta = 0.648, p-value 0.002<0.05].
