Abstract

The study investigated the contribution of stakeholder participation to performance of Mulatsi Child Development Centre (MCDC). A case study design was used to get data on the organization engaging stakeholders in the performance of the organization. To establish a relationship between stakeholder participation and performance, simple regression analysis was used. The study adopted the purpose sampling technique on the staff and church partner committee (CPC) while simple random sampling was applied on the project Children and caregivers. A sample of 12 respondents i.e. Staff and CPC, 162 Children and 155 caregivers aided the study. The response rate was 100%. The study adopted the questionnaire, interview, focus group discussion and documentary review as data collection methods. Regression coefficients results show that there is a high positive effect between informing, consulting, and involving participation and the performance of the organization. However, the empowering approach to stakeholder participation showed a negative effect on performance. Using T-Statistics, with a 0.00 significant level, which is less than 0.05, confirmed that informing, consulting, and involving stakeholders has an impact on the performance of the organization. However, the statistics disagrees with the study hypothesis that empowering stakeholders influences the performance of organizations. The study concluded that informing, consulting and involving as stakeholder approaches have an effect on performance. However, empowering stakeholders would have a far reaching effect if used. The study therefore recommended the organization should partner actively with stakeholders so that increased performance can be enhanced.
